WHERE YOU SHOULD TRAVEL BASED ON YOUR ASTROLOGY SIGN

When the power of astrology and the love of travel meet, there is a divine collision of interests, excitement and adventure! Based on the characteristics of your zodiac sign, here is your VINA guide to your next travel destination. Be open to the planetary alignment of possibilities and get going!

ARIES: HONOLULU, HAWAII

A fire sign, you’re full of unpredictability. You’re determined, strong, and belong in the wild Hawaiian island of Honolulu! Hawaii is a destination full of extremes: active volcanoes, intense rainfall, coastal erosion, massive waves. It’s no wonder Hawaii’s motto is “ua mau ke ea o ka aina i ka pono”–meaning the life of the land is perpetuated in righteousness. Such characteristics remind us of our lively fire sign, Aries. You take initiative even when you don’t foresee the outcome and you omit a youthful and free energy with a passion for physical activity. What better way to use your blazing spirit this season than to ride the waves in the birthplace of surfing, get your adrenaline pumping on a steep hike up the Stairway to Heaven, or take a bike tour through the magnificent scenery of Honolulu? You never know what you might stumble upon. These Hawaiian islands may be more unpredictable than you, Aries.

TAURUS: PARIS, FRANCE

An Earth sign and a child of Venus, Taurus’ are rooted in the sensual and romantic pleasures of the five senses. Known to be culinary queens, our Taurus vinas know exactly where to go hunting for the finest food. Enchant your desires in the world’s most visited country: France! Delight your earthy senses by day with the luscious lavender fields in the countryside of France, sampling local wines and lavender honey. Then travel to Paris at night to watch the city of blinding lights come to life while enjoying a late meal at a bistro overlooking the Eiffel Tower. Love and beauty dance through this country and with Taurus’ passion for sweet melodies, this destination could be a match made in Heaven.

GEMINI: BANGKOK, THAILAND

Thailand: a land full of adventures, colors and diversity–much like our versatile Gemini vinas. Thai natives are said to be very open-minded, similar to Geminis who are ruled by Mercury, a planet associated with all forms of communication. Geminis thrive when socializing and have a desire for intellectual stimulation. With over 5,000 miles of coastline just waiting for you to explore, get out there, girl! Check out Phang Nga Bay’s limestone caves on your way to Insta-worthy beaches of Ko Phi Phi Don. Don’t forget to meet the Hill Tribe locals and experience their unique and ancient way of life. Some residents are even known to provide the comfort of their home for a family dinner and night stay. Book your planetary stay around the full moon.Thailand is known for their wildly-vibrant full moon parties! Talk about intellectual Gemini stimulation!

CANCER: TULUM, MEXICO

Our ultra-sensitive Cancer vinas are known to be highly affected by their ruling planet, the Moon, but once this sign is in their element, they become exciting, highly imaginative and unpredictable spirits! Tulum, located on the Mexican-Caribbean coastline, is engulfed in beauty, wonder, and even some of the ancient Mayan ruins–perfect for all Cancer signs. These distinct ruins bring some magic to the sea–much like our spiritual Cancer, symbolized by the beach-crawling crab. Take a morning yoga class on the beach to recharge your mental and spiritual self before snorkeling through one of the several cenotes (swimming holes) or take to the jungle at night for a delicious cocktail followed by dinner and dancing under the tropical sky. Embrace everything the world has to offer to you, Cancer queens!

LEO: MARRAKESH, MORROCCO

Roam free like the lioness you are in the continent of Africa! As a Leo vina, your highly admired and lavish lifestyle deserves a getaway to the Moroccan desert in the city of Marrakesh. The gold-plated culture is sure to spark the royalty in you! Leo ruled by the Sun, this center-of-the-Universe vina is witty, creative and magnetic. And though your sign is labelled to be the most dominate and masculine of the zodiac signs, there is nothing wrong with a woman who knows exactly what she wants. So embrace your way through this imperial city by shopping till you drop in the enchanting souks, spending a night in a traditional riad and taking a camel ride through the Sahara. This fiery city was made for our fire element vinas.

VIRGO: BARCELONA, SPAIN

The Virgo goddesses are much more than what they appear. Often considered meticulous, cautious and conservative, this sign is actually full of adventure and insightful intuition. So let your vina Virgo budget your next getaway (these ladies are great with money) to Barcelona! With Virgo’s strong attention to detail, the best way for them to explore this architectural city is on foot, which gives these earthy artistic gals time to enjoy the wonders. Antoni Gaudí’s organic mosaic-patterned and nature-influenced constructions are a must-see (check out Casa Batlló virtual tour here) and for a day of relaxation, head to the beaches on Costa Brava, where you will find your crystal-clear water paradise surrounded by stress-free nature. Stroll around, get lost (for once, dear Virgo) and make room for your food because Barcelona is one of the world’s best cities when it comes to eating and drinking!

LIBRA: FLORENCE, ITALY

Another child of Venus, Libras are known as charming, peaceful and fair. Just like their Taurus sisters, they have a love for beauty and art. What better getaway than to the country where every female is greeted by the word, “bella!” Fine dining, fine art, fine-luxury: Italy it is! With the gift of communication, sociable nature and passion for cultural trends, this Libra vina will enjoy a scenic train ride through the Italian countryside, sunbathing under the Tuscan sky drinking a glass of vino and enjoying eloquently made food. With so much beauty to see, you might as well rent a car and cruise your way around. Start in the historic city of Florence and feed your artistic needs and then head to the Amalfi coast to indulge in serenity and beauty. Italy is the perfect place for all Libra desires.

SCORPIO: BALI, INDONESIA

For our exotic and esoteric babes, we bring you Bali. An island that is just as intense as our Scorpios, yet rooted in meditation and personal growth practices and beliefs, this place is perfect for these deeper-than-the-sea thinkers. Scorpios, being the sign of life, death and resurrection, are known to live in cycles and constantly reinvent themselves. Bali gives these vinas a chance to delve deep within themselves, all while being surrounded by magical jungles, ancient temples, and tranquil seascapes for your spiritual needs. So when it comes to travel, this high-energy vina is sure to want to explore every nook and cranny. Be sure to take a ride on the great bali swing and don’t forget to try some of the authentic food!

SAGGITARIUS: ROAD TRIP TO ANYWHERE

Inspiring, optimistic, and enthusiastic, these girls just wanna have fun! Nothing is ever off-limits for Sagittarius’. So. . . ROAD TRIP USA! There’s so much to do and so much to see in the states, coming and going to whichever location. Saggs, being slightly impulsive with a natural curious nature– you might as well start cruising and get lost on the open road! From the tropical keys to New England’s autumn leaves, all the way to the Pacific Northwest’s dreamy rainforest- there are sights to be seen! If you’re looking for the coolest, vintage styled photos, I highly recommend Route 66 for their old hotels and diners. Make your way through the Wild West and get lost in the spiritual realm of Sedona, Arizona or hit Coachella County for some fun in the blistering sun. End your spectacular getaway on Sunset Boulevard in Santa Monica. Take in all that the U.S.A. has to offer!

photo-1521488751966-119df31e9642

CAPRICORN: REYKJAVIK, ICELAND

These #girlbosses work hard and are never willing to take a break. Caps, we love you, but you need to go easy on yourself and treat yourself to the getaway of your dreams in Iceland. Quaint and beautiful-a lot like yourself- Iceland is the place to experience the great outdoors and embrace all of the nature around you. Get your adrenaline pumping by taking a ride on an all-terrain vehicle (ATVs) which is a great way to explore the black-sand beaches of the South Coast. Enjoy fresh, locally-grown food year-round thanks to geothermal energy, and of course, grab yourself a spiked hot-chocolate and cozy blanket, because you’re not going to want to miss the wonders of the Northern Lights (best seen between the months of September to April). Let down your guard and float away in this beautiful paradise of the Blue Lagoon. Take this time to rejuvenate your senses and get connected with nature, Capricorns.

AQUARIUS: MYKONOS, GREECE

Brilliant, passionate and charming, this Aquarian goddess is on a mission to change the world! Or at least learn as much as she can about it. Full of creative ideas and wisdom, our Aquarius ladies should take their intellectual-selves to the philosophical country of Greece. Not wanting to stay in one place for too long, we recommend for this trip to explore as much of this picturesque islands as possible. Start in the historical and Godly realm of Athens and learn about the Goddess Athena and all of her wits and wisdom, a lot like our Aquarian ladies! If you’re into more of a exotic scenery, head off to Santorini and it’s heavenly Architecture. This white-washed, blue-domed island town is right out of a fairytale. Lastly, end in Mykonos and enjoy all of the beauty that this amazing island has in store for you. This city might just make you fall in love!

PISCES: AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND

Our sensual and romantic mermaids are in for a treat with the next destination: New Zealand. A land that has a little something for everyone-sort of like our Pisces who inhabit a bit of each zodiac sign within, being that they are the last of the signs- New Zealand is the perfect mix of everything. With wide-open land to complete the sea around it, New Zealand is pretty extreme for our gentle Pisces. But, what some may not know is that Pisces are very curious beings with a passion for new experiences. New Zealand takes Pisces on an adventure through oceanic-blue wonders filled with water sports for our sea lovers and majestic caves that glow in the dark (Waitomo Cave) where you can then take time to stargaze in New Zealand’s said to be the darkest of skies for our mystic babes. Surf the waves or snowboard the slopes! With so much to do, you might find yourself wanting to become a “kiwi,” or New Zealand local, yourself!

FROM NYC TO LA: CITY LIFESTYLES WE ADMIRE

From a young age, I had always admired New York’s sleek, authentic and fabulous way of life. The idea of a big, glamorous city full of all kinds of people was enchanting. I was in awe that you could be yourself in a huge city without the pressures of others caring who you were, what you did or even what you wore. The FREEDOM.

It seems that individuals go to a big city to find themselves, to lose themselves or to try on another outfit of who they could be. New York City and Los Angeles can either make you or break you, but that doesn’t stop us from wanting to try their styles on. You know you were made for the city when you desire more.

THE CITY OF ANGELS

The second I landed at Los Angles International Airport and felt the sun shining in through the small airplane windows, all I wanted to do was embrace the salty air and this new, relaxed way of life. This was another sense of freedom that New York City doesn’t necessarily have to offer. L.A. allows us to completely let go of standards and move at a slower pace — which is totally opposite of its East Coast counterpart.

travis-yewell-314110-unsplash

Beachy and feminine vibes float through the air of L.A. Surfers cruise through the streets on their long boards, radiating this aura of “hey man, life goes on.” Well hey man, life goes on much slower here than on the other hustling and bustling coast.

THE CITY THAT NEVER SLEEPS

Edgy and fashion-forward with a flair of vibrance, the streets of Manhattan are a calling to some of us! Some are drawn to the street art, where Basquiat made his mark and joined the Pop Art crew of Andy Warhol. Others love to watch the fashion interns dashing through the streets with bags of expensive clothing for photoshoots. And others embrace the culture of doing whatever they want without the input from those around them. The feminist and outspoken ways of Sex and the City are never too far gone in the streets of New York. It’s who we are and who New York City shapes you to be.

brevite-434273-unsplash.jpg

COAST TO COAST

So go out and explore the world around you! In cities full of possibilities, might as well get lost and find out where you belong.

New to the city life? Click here to meet vinas in your area to explore the streets with!

SOMEWHERE WOMEN ARE ALWAYS THRIVING: ARTIST MARKETS

Art is an ineffable thing. That little word attempts to describe so many different mediums of the creative mind. Most of us are artists in our own way; even if we are not, there are many different types of art out in the world to be appreciated by all.

A few weekends ago I attended a Makers Mart in Sacramento, both as a vendor and consumer. I, myself, was not selling any of my own creations; however, I was assisting my friend sell her film photography prints. The Makers Market is held twice a year and the vendors sell everything from paintings to jewelry, cool metal mobiles to vegan gelato! Equipped with live music, beer and food, a person could spend an entire day there (as I did).

There were so many female creatives there, it was baffling. As I perused the items for sale, I interrogated a couple of the vendors. Below, I highlighted three of the merchants. I asked each of them one question pertaining to the market and all their answers shared a similar theme of community, support and persistence (all the best attributes of a feminist attitude).

ROXANNE YOUNG

Screen Shot 2017-07-05 at 2.50.13 PM

Emily Baedeker wearing Young’s Rainbow Fiber Earrings, via @leblondewhisperer

Roxanne Young is a jewelry designer based in San Francisco. She specializes in textile jewelry and wearable art. When asked if she has a “nine to five” in addition to her jewelry business, her response was authentic and unintentionally humorous. She rolled her eyes (just slightly) and said, “kind of… I have a four year old son.” So you can say, without hesitation, she definitely has another full time job; and he probably monopolizes her time during all hours of the day (not just nine to five).

Young has participated in many markets like this and she asserts that there is never a guarantee that one will break even. The best way to utilize a market is to network. There was one particular market that Young was a participant in a few years ago, at which she actually lost money. However, she met a business owner who started selling her jewelry in their brick-and-mortar store where Young’s jewelry has been sold ever since. Two key takeaways here are: don’t lose hope if you do not find immediate results, and make as many friends as possible.

JENNA RAE

I swear I possess no bias because she is my friend… Jenna Rae Gundelach is an uber talented photographer. As a California native, she currently resides in Oakland and like any good photographer, she always has her camera ready. Gundelach can make some of the most uptight and unphotogenic people look très chic (i.e. my mom).

This market was her first (ever) attempt at selling her prints in a public venue. Her set up was laid-back and inviting, with the hope of enticing the passive shoppers to step under her tent and take a gander at her selection of entirely film photography prints.

Gundelach’s advice to other artists looking to dip their toes into the market of artist markets: bring some of your friends to be advocates for your art. It can be really difficult to sell yourself, for no one wants to come across narcissistic. So have some of your more talkative and supportive friends with you in order to brag to perspective buyers about how amazing you are at whatever it is you do. I talked her up to a someone from Sunset Magazine, a local barber who is looking for a photographer to collaborate on a cool look-book for his business, and many more potentially life-altering networking opportunities. It helps, of course, that her prints are truly breathtaking.

SAVANNAH

One of the youngest vendors present, at twenty-three, Savannah Nicholson is already able to support herself solely on her jewelry business, Anahata Rae. She has a bright smile and a beautiful soul, maintaining that each item she designs is “intended to bring joy and beauty into the world.” How sweet is that? Her jewelry is trendy (in the best way), and beautifully presented.

Nicholson was able to become fully dependent on Anahata Rae in January of this year. Having lived in Sacramento, the Bay Area, and now San Luis Obispo, she has participated in many markets. She upholds that there is a definite learning curve when it comes to selling in a market setting. The first couple of times are not guaranteed success, but after one figures out the best way for their products to draw people in, one will see a steady increase in sales.

After spending all day in the ninety-something degree heat, I left having only made one purchase (besides the vegan gelato, twice), and it was the Luna Necklace from Anahata Rae.

All of these artists held a common sentiment about the Makers Mart. At marts like these, there is always a chance of a competitive atmosphere; however, all of the vendors seemed to be happy to come together as a community of artists in order to build each other up. I saw multiple vendors buying from each other, making business connections, and becoming friends.

YOUR IDEAL SUMMER TRAVEL DESTINATION BASED ON YOUR ZODIAC SIGN

Where to spend your week or two off this summer can be a nerve-wracking challenge.  You want to pick the right spot, but it’s hard to decide where to go, what to do, and ensure you are going to like it. So this summer, I’ve rounded up some of the best places for you to go, based on your zodiac sign! Because duh, we should make all our life decisions based on that, right? …Right?

Take us to the Azores Islands pls n thank u (📸: Away We Went)

FIRE SIGNS:  ARIES, LEO, SAGITTARIUS

Aries: Get your adventure fix and lead by example in Portugal’s Azores Islands this summer.  Aries is the type of person that is destined to visit this unspoiled gem in the heart of the ocean with two UNESCO World Heritage Sites among the nine islands.  An abundance of off-the-map adventures for the fitness-and-thrill seeking explorers, from whale watching to dolphin swimming.

Leo: The most infamous zodiac sign should head to Negril, and enjoy Hedonism II for a few days.  This destination allows them to be their bold selves, capture the spotlight, and dance the night away.

Sagittarius: For the “easy-going” fire sign, a trip to Bucks County, Pennsylvania is the perfect place to get away and relax.  Explore the Delaware River waterfront and shopping in antique shops, before heading to the Peace Valley Lavender farm. Can you say, ahhhh?

Casa de Uco, yes PLEASE! (📸: Casa de Uco)

EARTH: TAURUS, VIRGO, CAPRICORN

Taurus: A drool-worthy setting fit for the self-indulgent Taurus,  Casa de Uco is situated across a 790-acre estate and vineyard in Argentina’s Uco Valley. Guests can learn the sector de fuego (fire pit) barbecue cooking technique, enjoy one-of-a-kind wine parcel tasting through the vineyards with the sommelier and chef, and design their personal wine labels and brand via the Wine Barrel Program.

Virgo:  Take your schedule and your goals down to Nevis and check-in at Paradise Beach Resort to get into the ultimate shape of your life.  With customizable fitness plans based on your fitness level, you can choose to climb Nevis peak or hike to the waterfalls.

Capricorn:  Getting out in nature is the perfect place for Cap ladies to relax.  St. Kitt’s is where nature abounds, and the Marriott Resort and Royal Beach Casino will make you feel right at home with the beautiful honey brown beaches.

AIR:  GEMINI, AQUARIUS, LIBRA

Gemini:  Head across the pond, to London.  From there stay at The Distillery, which has two sides to appeal to the “twins”.  Create your own Portobello Road Gin, and get as crazy, or stay as tame, as either of your sides need to be.

Aquarius: Take a walk on the wild side with a visit to Cuba! This air sign tends to be fiercely independent, so navigating the island without wi-fi and relying on the native hospitality will give you some thrills.  For ideas in planning the perfect Cuba vacation visit Cuba Travel.

Libra:  Libra’s love beauty and balance, so venturing out a bit and heading to NYC to visit W Hotel’s new “Tattoo Suite” and take part in TLC Miami Ink’s inaugural tattoo series is a must do for this reserved sign.

WATER:  CANCER, SCORPIO, PISCES

Cancer: It’s no secret that Crabs love the beach, and in Nantucket, you can crab-walk to the newest boutique hotel, the Graydon House, enjoying an amazing dinner by a Michelin starred chef.

Scorpio: This sign tends to enjoy a balance of active adventure and relaxing bliss.  Spend some time at Collective Retreats either on a remote ranch in Vail, Colorado or along the serene Moonlight Basin in Yellowstone, Montana where you can enjoy heated tents, fully functional bathrooms and 1,500 thread count sheets with the option of an in-tent massage.

Pisces: This sign is drawn to water and nature, so seeking out a beautiful destination that is remote, like Secret Bay, is essential. It’s an eco-luxury boutique hotel in Dominica, a remote Caribbean Island, and would be the perfect destination.  Endless activities await the nature lover who will be able to hike some of the world’s best trails.

SUMMER ROAD TRIP IDEAS

There is surely something in the air come summertime that beckons us all from the warmth of our homes and whispers go in our ear. It is a time of planning, a time of travel, and a time self-exploration. One of the greatest ways to do all three is to set out on the road. With time for reflection, conversation, and the never ending change of scenery, road tripping is the ideal way to jump start your summer travels. Below is a list of some of the most celebrated ways and routes around the world to get you excited. You can also read our previous list of not to miss American Road trips here, and check out our essential road trip music playlist here!

“Out there things can happen and frequently do to people as brainy and footsy as you”

_dsc8069AUSTRALIA: SYDNEY TO BYRON BAY

This relatively short jaunt is perfect whether you’ve only got the weekend or an entire week to kill. The space between these two epic destinations is filled with quaint adorable towns, hikes, waterfalls, and beaches some of us have only seen in our dreams. Schedule yourself a few Airbnb’s or rent a van and sleep beachside. Be sure not to miss the adorable town of Bellingen just a few hours south of Byron, it’s straight of a fairy tale and there is an incredible local brewery. Ask the locals for directions to The Promise Land and find yourself a watering hole to swim in.

sam-wheeler-2304CALIFORNIA: L.A. TO BAJA

Going to Mexico doesn’t always mean living that resort life. I’m think sandy beaches, homemade tortillas, and glassy perfect little waves. I haven’t been yet but next month I am tagging along on a surf trip to Baja (I don’t surf). But I do hear there are all sorts of beach shacks for rent and super cheap beer and tacos. I’ll be packing a typewriter, a few swimsuits and little else for the excursion. This is definitely a trip to be done with Vina’s in tow, and be sure as always to be super careful.

kyle-cesmat-99929OREGON: COASTAL RIDE

Oregon is a rich chunk of land. Honestly I could spend months exploring those forests and hot springs, waterfalls, and inlets of that coastline. In my opinion the best way to venture this area is much like the 1 in California, but here it’s the 101 and it also hugs the coast and offers you endless views, spots to camp, and incredible towns to check out.  A few things not to miss along the way: The Tillamook Cheese Factory (I mean, because it’s cheese), Cannon Beach (it’s super popular but you’ll understand why when you get there), Portland, and Bagby Hot Springs (which isn’t on the way at all but I think totally worth the 67-mile drive east from Portland). Be sure to take it slow and enjoy the crisp air up there, rather than trying to cram everything in.

USA: DINER TOUR

This kind of trip can be adapted to wherever you are living, and whatever sort of time you have on your hands. The idea is that you set out in search of the best roadside diners, or the best French toast, or cup of coffee. This kind of road trip is a roll of the dice, and you make yourself available to the adventure and whatever strangeness might come your way. Also, if your strapped for cash can can’t necessarily make it somewhere epic, you can at least have a lot of fun.

FOLLOW A BAND

Do as the dead heads once did and follow your favorite band on tour. Not only will this guarantee you some non-stop fun, and quirky weird small towns, but you also have a laid out itinerary set for you. My advice would be not to pick some huge act that is selling out arenas, because it will be much of the same thing every night, and honestly who can afford that. Rather pick a local band or some hometown hero you really like. Check out my previous post of must-see touring women this year!

Happy travels lovelies! Wherever it is you decide to go be sure to keep your eyes on the road, your hearts open, and take lots and lots of pictures for us!!!
