MUST-HAVE MAKEUP ITEMS FOR THE SUMMER

Summer is here! For me, that means tan lines paired with bronzed and glowy skin. I don’t know about ya’ll, but summer is where my skin looks the best. It’s something about tan lines and a glow that makes me feel incredibly sexy. I’ve curated 10 products that I am obsessed with and recommend for any vina’s summer makeup bag.

MOISTURIZER:

A lot of us forget to protect our skin with an SPF before makeup application. My first must-have product is Aveeno Positively Radiant Moisturizer. This moisturizer contains SPF 15, perfect for all skin types. Plus, it’s inexpensive and lightweight.

BROW POWDER:

I’ve officially converted to brow powders. I’ve spent a ridiculous amount of money on brow products, and I always find myself falling back on NYX Brow Cake Powder. This product provides you with two brow colors and wax to hold your brows in place. A little product goes a long way because it’s incredibly pigmented. For a beautiful natural brow, I use this product with an angle brush and mimic my hair strokes. If you’re feeling fancy, you can use your concealer to clean up your brow for a clean and crisp look.

CONCEALER:

Maybelline Instant Rewind Eraser Concealer has saved my life, ya’ll; this concealer is perfect for those late nights and early mornings. The concealer provides full coverage, diminishes dark circles and puffiness.

EYESHADOW:

I love luminous, gold bronze, and even rose gold eyes for the summer. For those of you who have not shopped with Colourpop, head over to their site and purchase The Perception Palette. I must admit I am a makeup hoarder, but since I bought this palette, this is all I’ve reached for in every makeup look I’m doing. For a quick summer eye look, I blend culture in my crease and choose my lid color of choice. This eye look is so natural you can do it in your car! I usually add a couple of coats of  Maybelline Big Shot Mascara to make my eye pop even more.

BRONZER AND BLUSH:

For a sun-kissed glow, I’m obsessed with Milani Baked Blush. The blush provides you with a naturally radiant flush of color with gold reflects. If you’re not a blush girl but love a glow, hit the high points of your face with Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter for good measure. Anastasia Beverly Hills released a couple of bronzers this past spring that will completely round out your sun-kissed summer look. Spritz and set your face with the Urban Decay Chill Cooling and Hydrating Setting Spray which will provide 12 hours of flawless dewy skin.

The last two steps are to apply the Sol De Janeiro Sunset Glow Oil, Fenty Glow Bomb to your lips. And voilà—you’re ready for any plans with your vinas!

BINGE-WORTHY SUMMER T.V. SERIES

I know most of our vinas are busy babes who are juggling life, love, career, and kids, but everyone needs some time for a good old fashion binge-watching session. I know I am not the only one who hates queuing up your streaming services and not being able to find a damn thing to watch. So I’ve combined a list of the shows that I’m obsessed with.

OK ladies, so pull out your fave loungewear, sheet mask, and snacks—and get comfy because this list contains a little something for everyone.

1. Ozark: My spouse and I binge-watched this show one weekend. The show stars Jason Bateman and get this: he’s playing a shady ass financial adviser. We know Bateman for his comedic roles, but to see him playing in a dark drama was refreshing. If you enjoy a little mystery and a dash of drama, this show is for you. (Streaming now on Netflix).

2. Riverdale: I fell in love with this show because I had a passion for Archie Comics as a child, and this is not the bubbly and cute comic we’re used to. Riverdale takes a deep and dark dive into our favorite characters—granted some of the storylines can be a tad bit campy, but I am sure you will get pulled in with this teen drama mystery. (Streaming now on Netflix).

3. Handmaid’s Tale:  I attempted to binge-watch this show in one day … and boy, I had to take breaks because the storyline is so deep. This show centers around a totalitarian government that treats women as property. Based on a book, this series will have you looking at people sideways and wanting to get your affairs in order. (Catch up on season 1 & 2 now on Hulu).

4. Dear White People: I admit I never watched the movie, but I figured I’d give the series a try. Dear White People follows, a group of African American students who attend an Ivy League school. What I like about this show is that it provides multiple perspectives on the African American experience in America while also providing you with romantic drama and comedy. (Streaming now on Netflix).

5. Younger: This series follows a middle age, broke divorcee who has to reinvent herself as a 20-something-year-old woman to score her dream book publishing job. The main character Liza is forced to adapt to a millennial society, i.e. (social media, slang, and dating). This show is the perfect amount of drama and comedy. (Find episodes on TV Land).

6. Queer Eye More Than a Makeover: Ya’ll, I binged-watched this show when it first came out a couple of months ago and honestly cried during every episode. If you’re unfamiliar with the original series that debuted in the early 2000s, the show follows the Fab 5 who travels around the city and gives men and sometimes your occasional woman a makeover. They’re not only giving them makeovers—they are, in fact, peeling away their layers to get to the root of an insecurity. When you think that your tear ducts are finally drying up, the Fab 5 drops another season. Get your tissues ready because this show will have you feeling all the feels. (Streaming now on Netflix).

7. She’s Gotta Have It: This series follows the dating life of Nola, an African American Artist and feminist. Nola is juggling several different partners, each partner providing her with what she requires in a fulfilling relationship. I love the sexual freedom depicted in this series, as Nola is that friend who does what she wants, no matter what. This series is refreshing, and I can’t wait for the next season. (Streaming now on Netflix).

8. Grace and Frankie: Rivals-turned-BFFs Grace and Frankie are coping with the unthinkable: their husbands are in love with each other. It centers around the two women coping with becoming divorcees, finding their true passions, and crazy family drama. This show will have you in stitches. (Streaming now on Netflix).

9. Insecure: Issa is a modern day black woman dealing with an unmotivated boyfriend, a successful best friend who can’t seem to get her dating life in order and more. This show honestly provided me with some of the best water cooler talks. Once you watch it, let me know if you’re #TeamIssa or #TeamLawrence! (Available now on HBO GO).

10. Atypical: Sam is a high school teenager who happens to fall on the autistic spectrum. Sam is ready for love, but he has to deal with a helicopter mother, and his friends and family giving him endless dating tips. This show is hilarious and also provides insight on the obstacles people with autism may face. (Streaming now on Netflix).
