WHAT TO DO WHEN YOUR VINA WON’T STAY OFF HER PHONE

We've all seen it and probably done it ourselves: we're out with our vinas, but pay more attention to our phones than them.

We’ve all seen it and probably done it ourselves: we’re out with our vinas, but pay more attention to our phones than them.

One of my vinas is the worst culprit. Let’s call her Sophie. Her phone might as well be glued to her hand! Whenever she joins us, she checks her phone every minute, sometimes even in the middle of a conversation. In the end, it became so bad that we didn’t notice that she didn’t say a single word during the whole meet up.

This is what we did to get Sophie off her phone:

STEP ONE: THE SILENT TREATMENT

This already worked in school, so it will also work with your vinas. Did you ever notice, that when the teacher suddenly stopped talking, everyone looked up?
When you and your vinas are in the middle of a conversation and abrubtly go quiet, you can be sure that your Sophie will pay attention.

STEP TWO: SEND TEXT MESSAGES

If this doesn’t help, another way to get her attention is to get on that screen she is staring at. So we started to send her text messages. At the start, we wrote things like “there’s a cute guy staring at you,” but she only looked up to see if someone actually was. When she found out that there was no guy, she gave us an evil look and went back to stare at her screen.

STEP THREE: SHOW HER SHE’S EXCLUDING HERSELF

Since the texts didn’t help, we went a step further. We decided to take a group picture of us with her and her phone in the background. When we sent her that picture, it turned out to be more helpful than the texts. She realized she wasn’t part of the group and joined our conversations. Unfortunately, this didn’t last for long.

STEP FOUR: MAKE IT A GAME

Trust me, this one is effective! While trying to get Sophie off HER phone, we all ended up on OUR phones to text her to stop. So to make sure none of touched our phones while we were together, we put all the phones on the table, screens up. The first person to reach for their phone had to pay the bill.

Sophie ended up paying two rounds in a row and soon switched off her phone completely. Mission accomplished!

  1. Thank you ever so much for the tip! A girl I’ve been really excited to hang out with and get to know is totally addicted to her phone and she is actually not any fun because of it. It’s like you guys knew I needed this right now!
