No matter how often you like, or don’t like, to drink, it is important for any friendship to be cultivated with some good old fashion sober fun. However you slice it, there are going to be times, or entire friendships, in which alcohol is not a main player at the table. And we salute you for that lifestyle choice, that juice cleanse, that “sick day” that would make Ferris Bueller proud. We’ve got some go-to vina dates that will get the good times rollin’.
1. SEEK OUT SOME FREE YOGA IN THE PARK
Absolutely no better natural high than getting your sweat on! There is something soothing about not only going to a yoga class for free, but also doing it outdoors. Let the endorphins run on high with this experience.
In doing this, you do good for you and good for others. Take about some serious karma bonus points! To find local opportunities that would be a good fit for you and your vina, go to Volunteer Match or Idealist.
3. NETFLIX AND CHOCOLATE
Netflix and chocolate – see what I did here? Shelve the wine for a night and replace it with chocolate and lots of it. We recommend getting a bunch of different varieties (we love TCHO) and chopping them up into little bites with berries. Instead of a cheese board and wine, you can offer a chocolate board!
4. THRIFT SHOPPING
Thrifting – it’s shopping, but it feels more like hunting. Get yourselves to the nearest haven of thrift and antique stores. It’s fun to give yourself a goal (summer dress, the perfect boyfriend jeans) and seek out that one special item. My most recent hunt has been for a typewriter.
5. SOMETHING OFF YOUR BUCKET LIST
Try something neither of you have ever done before. Eat Szechuan food or go surfing. Let the activity itself be a bonding of firsts. Plus, it will be fun to try and figure out something neither of you have ever done.
