I’m the first to admit that in the past, I haven’t made the most of summer *audible gasp*. I haven’t travelled for four months straight or set-up my own business … but I have binge-watched Gossip Girl and that’s OK. There is so much pressure on us vinas to have incredible plans lined up for summer that it can feel stressful when things just don’t pan out.
That being said, making the most of your freedom can be done without even leaving your hometown. If you’re a sporty, athletic vina, then why not get together with other fit vinas and have some fit fun together? Here are just a few ideas that don’t require a loan or a plane journey!
Sign up for an event
A marathon, a triathlon, an assault course or even a hike — whatever it is that you and your vina enjoy doing, why not sign up for a sponsored event and you’ll not only bond over tackling the event itself but over training sessions together in the run-up to it too.
Become total yogis
Love a downward dog? Or is a chaturanga more your jam? Well, why not take it outdoors to the park or the beach and set up shop for the day with a picnic and a yoga mat for the ultimate Zen afternoon? Namaste!
Join a team
The prospect of joining a team sport might be daunting but with your vina by your side, it can be hella fun. Why not try something new like powerlifting or lacrosse? Or just stick to what you’re good at (there’s no shame in that!) and get together to thrash it out.
Pop-ups
Here in London, there are always free fitness pop-ups quite literally popping-up around the city that you can have a go at. From run clubs to HIIT classes in the park, venture along with your best vina and give it a go. You never know, you might find a new fitness fave.
Swimming
Lucky enough to live near the sea? Make the most of summer and head down to the beach — not only to soak up the sun but to dive into the water and get some laps in. You could also hunt down a local lake and go for a paddle and picnic there. A gym nearby may have an indoor pool as well!
Social Media
Last but not least, if you and your vina can’t afford to join a gym together, then make the most of all the incredible no-equipment workouts that many vloggers and bloggers share on YouTube (Yoga with Adriene is a great place to start) and Instagram. Following along to these with a VINA for extra support is a cheap and portable way to get fit together.
