HOW TO CRAFT THE PERFECT INSTA FEED AND ENJOY YOUR VACATION

Learn the ins and outs of an appealing Instagram feed without letting your phone take over your vacation.

Close your eyes, take a deep breath, and imagine yourself on your dream vacation. White sand beaches, tall skyscrapers, or giant mountains— whatever it is that you’re imagining probably also includes a killer Instagram feed. Perhaps it is sad that we think so much about social media… But let’s face it; everyone wants those perfect vacay pics.

The issue, however, is that as much as you might want those photos, you don’t want to spend your entire vacation behind your phone’s screen.

So, here are my tips and tricks to help you get those photos, while still soaking it all in!

TAKE PHOTOS

Duh… you knew from the title of this article that I wasn’t going to suggest you do a phone free vacation. But it’s still important to remember; it is OKAY to take out your phone (or camera) now and again to get those pictures. There are bound to be some photo-worthy moments. It is more likely that you will be left feeling guilty later on for NOT commemorating these moments with a photo than you will feel relieved to have had no phone out at all.

ONCE YOU’VE GOT THE PHOTO, PUT YOUR PHONE AWAY

Got the perfect shot? Okay, now it’s time to put your phone down and…

SOAK IT ALL IN

Yes! You’re here! You did it! You’re on vacation, and you probably really deserve it. Let yourself feel at ease in your surroundings. You already got the picture, now work on saving this moment in your mind. Take big breaths, crack jokes with your vacation buddies, smile A LOT (just for you, not for the camera), and let yourself feel the relaxation.

NO PHONES AT MEALS

Here’s the thing: people probably don’t actually care about what you ate. Sure, sure, sometimes you a meal is placed in front of you that is simply too beautiful NOT to take a picture of, and if that’s the case, reread my previous tips. But for the most part, let meal times be just for you, your food, and whoever you’re sharing your meal with!

GIVE YOURSELF PHONE TIME, BUT LIMIT IT

So, now you’re probably wondering: I’ve got the photos, and I’ve soaked it all in, but when are you going to tell me how to craft the perfect feed?! Luckily for you, because you’re on vacation in a new place, your photos are bound to have a similar feel and will naturally all look wonderful next to one another on your page. The bigger issue is when will you have time to edit, caption, and post them? And the answer is…. give yourself some phone time! Yes, yes, you also need to be present where you are. But occasionally, (and I do mean occasionally) it is a good thing to take a little break and look at your phone. So once a day, or maybe every other day, set aside a half hour or so to sort through your photos and post a couple. The most important thing here is to NOT get dragged in to being on your phone for any longer.

NO PHONES BEFORE BED

You’ve probably heard this one a million times. But come on now— if you want to be nice to your body, your sleep cycle, and your future self, what better time to start then when you’re on vacation?! Put your phone away an hour before you go to sleep. Read a book, pillow talk with your vina/significant other/mom, or do a little evening time yoga. Whatever it is, if you aren’t in front of a screen, you’re doing yourself a major favor!

If you follow my tips and tricks you should be well set up for an incredible vacation and a dreamy insta feed.
