Many people love the fall for many reasons, and one big reason is that Starbucks finally unleashes their limited edition Pumpkin Spice Latte. The Pumpkin Spice Latte is a cult favorite of many coffee drinkers. Containing notes of cloves, nutmeg, and cinnamon along with its main flavor, the PSL is truly comforting. Drinking one feels like Halloween and Thanksgiving even when it’s not!
However, you may be like me in the sense that you don’t care about the PSL. You don’t get the hype, you don’t like the flavors, or you just prefer a different drink. If you’re not into the PSL but want to get into the fall spirit on your next cafe visit, take your pick from these five cozy hot drinks instead!
Salted Caramel Mocha
Coffee chains often serve up this signature drink along with the PSL come fall. If you’ve got a real sweet tooth, you can’t go wrong with chocolate and caramel in the same drink. Even more, there’s that little salty kick too! It’s like sipping a melted chocolate truffle—so rich and indulgent!
Cinnamon Dolce Latte
If you don’t like the taste of pumpkin but like cinnamon, this is your perfect drink. The Starbucks version uses a cinnamon dolce syrup and steamed milk and tops it off with cinnamon spice. Cinnamon is another flavor greatly associated with fall and bonus, it’ll take you straight into the wintertime too!
This oh-so-simple drink is great all year-round, but its earthy sweetness feels especially cozy in the fall. Plus, the name alone makes us think of maple leafs, which is symbolic of autumn in itself.
Raw honey is a great sweetener for healthy (And unhealthy!) recipes, but have you ever thought about putting it in your coffee? Five and Spice has an excellent recipe you can make at home with honey, nutmeg, espresso, and milk. If you don’t have access to an espresso machine at home or the office, ask your local barista to try their hand at making one!
Hot Apple Cider
Not a coffee drinker or just can’t have coffee at the moment? You can still get into the autumn spirit with a classic hot apple cider. It’s another cozy drink that holds well throughout the year, especially during the cooler months or when you’re feeling under the weather. To really get into the fall season, add some caramel or caramel flavor to the drink!
Now that we’ve listed some of our Pumpkin Spice Latte alternatives for the season, what are some of your favorites?
