If pressed, most of us could name at least one woman crush – a woman we admire, respect, and even find attractive (whether we would actually date her or not). Famous names from movies, music, and other forms of media usually come to mind, but what about the women we know in real life? What about our vinas?
Seriously- think about some of the amazing women in your life. We admire certain actresses, musicians, comediennes, etc. because they’re accomplished, intelligent, beautiful, maybe even extremely relatable and down to earth. We might want to emulate them. We might even wish we knew them. But if we take a look at our own friend lists, we might find that we already know many women who are also accomplished, intelligent, beautiful, etc.: they are our best friends, our coworkers, our teammates. We have a front-row ticket to their awesomeness day in and day out, and they inspire us in very special ways, because we know them personally.
When I do a quick glance around my circle, I see so many crush-worthy women:
- Marathoners, roller derby girls, powerlifters, CrossFitters, and triathletes (of all sizes and shapes, by the way)
- Painters, photographers, knitters, seamstresses, writers, performers, bakers, and makeup artists
- Activists who are on the front lines, fighting for the rights of all marginalized groups and speaking out against injustice (even though it means dealing with really unpleasant people on the internet)
- Teachers who are out there taking care of their students, sometimes even out of the classroom (special shout-out to the teachers I used to work with)
All unique and all beautiful in their own distinctly individual ways, these are women who make me want to be a better person, but at the same time, because I know them in real life, they are more “real” to me – I see them, along with their quirks, flaws, and all, and they still inspire me.
I’m not saying this to brag about the women I know… Wait, actually- I AM bragging about the women I know, because I know some really amazing women, and they deserve to be bragged about. I am blessed to have so many crush-worthy women in my life, and I’m willing to bet that you are too. I’d even bet that they feel the same way about you.
Who are the woman crushes in your life? Celebrate them in the comments!
