HOW TO BE THE BEST WING-WOMAN OUT THERE

Being a wing-woman sounds like a lot of pressure, but honestly, the job is pretty simple. And, if we’re being real, most of us are already filling this role on the reg. For example, when we tell people how awesome one of our vinas is, or put their needs/wants a little above our own for a minute, that’s wing-woman 101! But, if you’re feeling rusty, I’ve compiled a list of quick tips below to take your wing-woman game to the next level:

BUILD YOUR VINA UP

I have a bad tendency to downplay myself, especially when I’m in a situation where I might feel shy. Don’t let your vina do that! Step in (politely!) and remind them that the “small thing they wrote” is actually a published article, or that when they say, “I dabble” what they mean is they are actually really talented.

PUT YOUR VINA BEFORE YOURSELF

I’m not talking in an unhealthy way (we’re all about self-care here!) but for a night, as a wing-woman, you have to step out of the limelight. Give your vina a minute to shine! We’re all about community over competition, even when it comes to flirting or networking.

BE THE BEST SAFETY BUDDY EVER

This is perhaps the golden rule of being a wing-woman, watch your vina’s back. It goes without saying: Don’t ditch her at the bar because she’s talking to someone else for the moment. Don’t let her leave with a stranger if she’s too drunk to give consent, etc. The buddy system is the #1 way to stay safe when out and meeting new people.

BE A WING-WOMAN FOR A STRANGER!

You don’t have to know someone to be their wing-woman. It’s easy: you see a girl rocking awesome shoes/great makeup/whatever, you tell her so, and then watch the confidence/radiance/happiness bloom. That radiance will absolutely carry over into the rest of their evening!
