Attention all cat lovers! Before scurrying about your Halloween weekend plans, you may want to consider that today is National Cat Day. If you love your felines and have vinas who love them too then every day might already be National Cat Day for you. However, whether you celebrate in October and/or any other day of the year, we’ve got some purr-fect ideas to make your Cat Day the cat’s meow!
VOLUNTEER AT YOUR LOCAL PET SHELTER
Want to spend time with kitties and help your community? Organize your squad to volunteer at your local pet shelter! Heads up: your shelter may require a long-term commitment to volunteer for them. Use Petfinder to search for your local shelter and get acquainted with them and their volunteer procedures and policies.
HAVE A CAT PLAY-DATE WITH YOUR VINA
If you have a vina with a cat-safe living space (because naturally, they’d have a cat too!), get the girls and their felines together for some group playtime! Be sure everyone has their favorite toys and treats on hand as well. Invite your feline-less vinas too and it can be a fun way to share the love with your cat-loving vinas who don’t have one of their own. Aww!
VINA-DATE AT A CAT CAFE
Originated in Taiwan and Japan, cat cafes have been popping up all over the world and recently just made their way into North America. The premise is simple: cats play and humans watch, play with them, and enjoy tea, coffee, and eats. North American cat cafes usually partner with rescue organizations and shelters to showcase adoptable cats, so there’s an added bonus for those willing and able to give a cat a home! If you happen to be in San Francisco like me, you can play with cats for an hour and enjoy bottomless green tea at KitTea in Hayes Valley for a $20 fee. Otherwise you can find a cat cafe near you, by referring to this map from Eater!
GET CAT CRAFTY
If you and your squad are creatively inclined, make National Cat Day a vina craft day! Knit some cat hats and sweaters or make beds, toys, scratching posts, or even litter for your pets. On the other hand, you can also make cat-related gifts for each other, like art or jewelry. Check out the links below for some ideas!
