IS YOUR NEW FRIEND MORE THAN A SUMMER FLING?

Summer is long gone. Gone with it are weekend getaways, Summer Fridays, and outdoor BBQs. 😭 Social butterflies flourish in the summer. Many of us have probably met scores of new people while being our social summer selves, especially while using Hey! VINA.

Since we tend to have more free time and more willingness to spend that free time outside of home, we make more time to hang with new vinas on the search for new BFFs. But how do you know if your new friend is the real deal and not just a summer fling?

YOU CAN JUST “HANG OUT”

Your almost-BFF can turn into the real thing… if you two can just hang and not have to go out to have fun. If you’re comfortable just sitting at home – chatting, eating, or watching TV (or all three) – you know that you’ve found someone special. Going out is fun, especially in the summer, but you and your true best friends can have just as much fun doing absolutely nothing.

YOU’VE BEEN DEEP

If you and your vina have moved past small talk and into the deep, emotional, and vulnerable stuff, you’ve got a winner. It’s a proven fact: emotional vulnerability is key to deep, lasting connections.

YOU’VE MET EACH OTHER’S FRIENDS

How else can you know the friendship is for real? If you’ve met each other’s existing friends! This is a classic romantic relationship milestone that totally relates to platonic relationships as well. If you’ve met and got along with each other’s squads, you can be sure the friendship is going places!

Got any other tips for ensuring a new vina could be your new best friend? Tell us in the comments!

Editorial @ VINA; lover of film, music made in bedrooms, art, and intersectional feminism; and harboring a (not so) secret weakness for reality TV and the color pink 💞💘. If I'm M.I.A. you'll probably be able to find me staring at an Ellsworth Kelly at SFMOMA or taking in the ocean breeze at Land's End.
