MEET OUR VINA: SUMMER

I met Summer a few weeks ago when she participated in one of our VINA photoshoots. This cool chick does it all – from working in marketing to traveling the globe (she’s coming your way Ireland and Japan). It felt like she and I were instant BFFs – we even picked out the same top during an innocent post-photoshoot shopping spree where we both spent more $$$ than we meant to 😅💸👯.

You can get to know her, too! Check out our interview below:

Hey Summer! How old are you and what do you do for work?

I’m 25, and I’m the Marketing Coordinator at Flow Kana, the first sustainable, sun-grown cannabis brand in California.

How did you hear about Hey! VINA?

I believe it was an article about Hey! VINA on Racked. Or was it Jezebel? Elle? I forget. But yeah, I read about an app where ladies can find lady friends. As someone who moves frequently, it’s hard to find friends on my own. You don’t have college classes to help you meet people anymore. I think a lot of women find it difficult to tell another woman that they think they’re cool and want to stay in contact. I mean, it feels weird, right? But this app is perfect for solving that problem.

What’s been your fave Hey! VINA date?

So I have a funny story. Back a few months ago, I went to a goal-setting class at General Assembly. At that class, I met this chick that I thought was super cool. We even shared some of our goals with each other (one common goal was getting better at making friends). Even after that, I felt too weird to ask her for her number to hang out, so I just slipped out after the class and went home. The next day, I pulled up my app and looked at some of my matches from the past week. I was matched with this same girl on Hey! VINA. So I sent her a message, connected on social media, and went out for brunch and a walk around Dolores. Now we’re super tight, and she’s one of my best friends (also the only person I can obsess over Pretty Little Liars with). That whole experience has made me much more open to taking risks and trying to make friends. If you don’t try, you’ll miss out on opportunities to meet people who change your life.

Which 5 emojis best describe you?

🏄 – I’ve been learning how to surf. The first time I got up on my board and rode a wave felt so incredible.

💅 – Have great nails, everything else falls in place.

✈️ – I love travel. I have three international trips coming in in the next couple of months! It’s insane. I can’t wait.

🍣 – I eat sushi at least once a week. Last year, I went 28 days in a row having sushi for dinner. I had to take a break from fish for quite a while after that.

🍾 – Bubbles make everything better. Everything.

What’s your guilty pleasure?

Candy stores. I can’t walk through SFO without stopping at that bulk candy store and stocking up on gummies and sour candy.

What is your favorite thing about yourself?

I always find this question hard to answer… I usually turn it into a joke or start talking about my dog. But if I was answering it seriously, I would say my ambition. I work my ass off to get where I want to be in life. Just looking at the past 5 years of my life, it feels insane to see where I’ve been, where I’m am, and where I’m headed. I believe in hard work. (But I also believe in vacations. Lots and lots of vacations!)

Don’t forget to say Hey! to Summer on her (very cool) Instagram.
